World Elephant Day 2025
August 16 @ 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm

In tandem with World Elephant Society’s annual World Elephant Day event on August 12th, we’re dedicating this Saturday to the history of elephants throughout Asia and their place in both culture and the natural environment.
Cultural Education Station: Our educators will be here to teach the arts and culture surrounding elephants and their impact on Asian history.
Ivory Education Station: Using antique ivory carvings, we will dig into the science of what ivory is; explaining why it was so sought after without glorifying the ivory trade.
Hands-on Origami: We will have instructors available all day to teach origami, including an elephant face and other animals.

The museum’s regular exhibits will also be open and accessible, including a fabric print of an elephant procession at our Rotating Display section.
‘Attempting Bunraku’: Zero Untitled Productions will be performing their puppetry show from 12 PM to 3 PM, sharing a unique form of Japanese storytelling.
Live Animals: South Texas Botanical Gardens will be bringing out some of their reptilian friends, letting people get up close with nature in a way that’s safe for both humans and animals.
