means… “I’ll stay true to myself and live alone.”

Based on the award-winning novel, the story of a 75-year-old lady who became a widow recently and adjusting to a life on her own. Loneliness is sweet at times and bitter at others, but she is trying to cope, and visiting the library changed her life.　This gentle, relatable, beautiful, and inspiring depiction of Momoko, living a　new life, embracing insecurity and sadness, and bravely taking steps toward her future is a one-of-a-kind　emotional masterpiece!

What is “Sumikkogurashi”?

Sumikkogurashi is a popular character released in 2012 by San-X Co., Ltd., known for Tarepanda

and Rilakkuma. The unique characters, such as cold-natured “Shirokuma”, unconfident “Penguin”,

leftover (?!) “Tonkatsu” and shy “Neko”,  are slightly negative but unique characters who love corners　 in their own ways.

One day, the Sumikko friends find an old pop-up book in the basement of their favorite Sumikko Café. When they are looking at the book, the mechanism suddenly starts moving and the Sumikko friends are sucked into the book. In the world of the book, they meet a lonely Hiyoko, who doesn’t where it is from or who it is. “Let’s help Hiyoko find its home!” The Sumikko friends decide to help their new friend. The journey in the world of the book begins.

●It’s a summer film

It is a refreshing and entertaining “Seishun” film. 

Barefoot (Hadashi) is a high-school girl who adores samurai movies and Japanese costume drama. But she doesn’t stand a chance of making a samurai movie at school, as all the film club members prefer romantic dramas. One day Barefoot meets Rintaro, who is an ideal actor for the lead samurai role in a movie she wrote. And so Barefoot and her two best friends, Kickboard and Blue Hawaii, persuade Rintaro to star in the movie, also gathering a unique cast and crew. However, during production, Barefoot finds out that Rintaro is…somewhat weird.
